The two-time American Lighting Association Pillar of the Industry recipient has been involved in the lighting industry since age 10, starting at his parents’ rep agency. Today, Alan heads up a 12-person team that reps lines such as Arteriors, Legrand, Hubbardton Forge, Swarovski and Matthews Fan Co.

His business continues to grow as he takes on more ALA-member manufacturers, and he continues to evolve with the changing lighting landscape. He’s a Certified Lighting Manufacturers’ Rep (CLMR), and Chairman of ALA’s Board of Trustees of the Educational Foundation and the Endowment Fund Committee, and also a member of the Membership Committee and 2016 Conference Planning Committee.

Alan told Residential Lighting magazine that he’s so engaged in ALA because he believes in where the industry is headed. ALA President Eric Jacobson says that the organization is fortunate for the energy and drive Alan brings. “Richard Alan is a one-of-a-kind individual,” Jacobson says. “I have the utmost respect for him and his ability to make such a positive impact on the lighting industry. Richard’s natural leadership skills motivate and inspire those around him; he’s constantly asking, ‘What more can I do to help ALA and the industry?’”
